Here is what Clea from Shipley said about my yogamum Mum and Baby Classes.

“Baby yoga was brilliant! There was a good mix of activities which focused on mum and baby. It helped me particularly with my posture and lifting a growing baby and it was a great new experience for my baby who enjoyed all the different exercises and the songs that accompanied them. It was a very positive experience and very interactive and I would highly recommend it to others.”

I hope to see you there!

I am now 15 weeks pregnant and for the first few weeks I was RAVENOUS and felt like eating was the only way to stop me from feeling queezy!

But, of course the guidance is that, depsite all old wives takes, we don’t need to ‘eat for two’ and ramp up the calorie in-take when we are pregnant, it is quality not quantity that matters.

So what should we eat and how much of it to make sure that our babies (and we) are getting all the nutrition we need? Jean Sullivan a locally based dietician has written an excellent article on the moormums website (click here for a link) which explains more. If you want one-to-one advice then her website link is here. She is very friendly and approachable with a wealth of experience, I would recommend her wholeheartedly.

Next Friday, Benig Mauger, acclaimed author and Psychotherapist is leading the Birth and the Soul workshop at the Yorkshire Yoga centre in Knaresborough.

I am delighted to say that this event is now booked full of Mothers, Midwives, Doulas, Active Birth and Pregnancy Yoga teachers. It promises to be a great day.

As demand has been so high, we are therefore offering an additional half day workshop on Saturday 8th October 9:30-1pm. Further details are below.

This will be followed by an informal booksigning with Benig.

Please come along or pass on to anyone you know would be interested in this most important of areas.

Birth & the Soul Healing Wounded Mothers

A half day workshop with Benig Mauger, Psychotherapist& Author of ‘Songs From the Womb’

The evidence suggests that when a woman experiences the birth of her child as difficult or harrowing, it results in emotional wounding in both mother and child. Such ‘soul’ wounds can take years to heal and have devastating consequences on families.

Highlighting the ‘loss of soul’ encountered by many due to our modern medicalised way of birth, Benig will explain how birth is a soul experience for both mother and child, and how negative birth experiences can be healed and transformed. The workshop presents birth and prenatal life as formative experiences that create patterns we carry with us into future life.

This additional half-day workshop is open to all professionals working with pregnant and post natal women. It will be particularly relevant for midwives, health visitors, active birth instructors, Doulas, pregnancy and post natal yoga teachers. Mothers who wish to explore and share their experiences are also very welcome to attend.

Participants will gain an understanding of the psychological and spiritual dimension of the birth process and its relevance to later life.

The session will be followed by an informal booksigning and in the afternoon there is the opportunity for one – one consultations or smaller group sessions.

Cost: £35

Time: 9.30-1pm

Location: Yorkshire Yoga and Therapy Centre, Knaresborough, North Yorks.

For more information and to book your place please contact me.

Here is some feedback from other mums who came along.

“ I was really surprised to find my baby so responsive and I am a convert! I now massage him about 3 times a week in the late afternoon and it helps him remain calmer for longer and I enjoy the bonding time with him. Dad occasionally does it too. He loves it and always smiles when he knows it’s massage time! Thanks Angela.

“My little girl and I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and learnt a lot of valuable techniques and theory. I also enjoyed the discussions post-massage and found them genuinely useful and interesting. Angela is a fab teacher! Thank you!”

email, text or call me if you would like a space

Well that is exactly what happened to me when I read Benig Mauger’s book Songs from the Womb, Healing the Wounded Mother which looks at the impact of pregnancy and birth experiences on both mother and child.

Indeed I found it so inspiring that I emailed Benig and asked her if she would like to come to Yorkshire to share her work. I am delighted to say that she accepted.

The Birth and the Soul Workshop will take place on Friday 7th October with an opportunity for individual or smaller group sessions on Saturday 8th October.

Normal classes resume week commencing 11th July.

In August there will be no classes in Otley. Instead the 3-4pm class on a Monday in Menston will become a Family Yoga Class. Come along with your baby and any of your other children and we shall do some yoga and sing some songs and go with the flow! What’s more, the Children’s Centre has a covered area so if it is sunny we will be able to do our yoga outside.
